On 25 Years of Doing One Thing Well
When TJ Supply opened in 2000, the market for apricot seed extract supplements in the United States was small, scattered, and uneven in quality. After researching the available options, the decision was made to build a distributor focused exclusively on this category — and exclusively on one manufacturer.
That decision was unusual then and remains unusual now. Most supplement companies expand into adjacent categories the moment they have momentum. TJ Supply chose the opposite — staying narrow, staying focused, and being known for one thing done correctly.
The reasoning was simple. If a product couldn't be verified through the same process used for Novodalin, it wouldn't be sold here. That meant turning down expansion opportunities. It also meant building a business that's harder to grow but easier to trust.
The other early decision was the doctor policy. From the first year, when customers called and told us their doctor didn't agree with this type of supplementation, the response was the same — follow your doctor — and refund the order if it was unopened, only deducting the original shipping. TJ Supply has often been asked why we don't push harder on marketing — why we don't run aggressive promotions, send urgency emails, or use the language other supplement companies use. The honest answer is that many of the people who find us are researching during difficult moments in their lives or the lives of their loved ones. That changes what's appropriate. It would feel wrong to use high-pressure tactics on someone in a vulnerable situation. So we don't.
What we do instead is try to give people accurate information, real documentation, a respectful purchase experience, and the room to make their own decisions in consultation with their own doctors. After 25 years, that approach has built something we're grateful for: a customer base that comes back, refers others, and writes letters that get kept in the office.
